Christine > Day 183: Pipes
July 3, 2009
Not sure what they're for, but I found them in a field on the North Fork.

Hey- anyone seen dedmanshootin? I was just thinking to myself that it's been awhile since I've "seen" him. Just checked his page and he hasn't posted a daily in a very long time. Any scoop?
Christine > Day 182: Dukie
July 2, 2009
This is Dukie, my neighbor's dog. The neighbors summer here on the North Fork- during the school year they live in PA. They have two boxers. Dukie is pleasant to me but Daisy just barks angrily at me. We'll see how the relationship develops this summer. I may or may not get a shot of Daisy. :)
Christine > Day 181: Boxing Nun
July 1, 2009
This feisty lady looks like many of my grammar school teachers. I used to torture my husband by "boxing" the side of his face while he watched one of his political shows (Hardball, Keith Oberman, Rachel Maddow etc). There are controls in the back for each arm. It drove him crazy!! Then one day he really looked at the face and the look of absolute shock overcame him. "She looks exactly like my mother!!!!" he said. His mom passed away many years before he and I met and he lost most of his pictures in a house fire a few years back. I compared her to one shot he had of her and was amazed. Right down to the lipstick- the faces were identical!! I haven't punched him since then- don't want to be the reason for a large psychotherapy bill. Doh!
Christine > Day 180: Chinese Take-Out
June 30, 2009
Today's photo of the day (SOOC) illustrates that the photographer A) is a creative genius, B) is totally insane, or C) has the IQ equivalent to that of a french fry. The correct answer is D) none of the above. Well, I'm really hoping it's not B or C. It's really hard to get a good POD when you work full time in an office. I'm sure most of you can relate. I took my camera out with me on my lunch break in the hopes of finding something to shoot. I found flowers. Again. I shot a good 30 – 35 versions of them and realized I was bored out of my mind. Flowers again?? I can't bear it. Here I am, 6 months into my POD project and I find myself struggling to find something creative to shoot. Wasn't the point of starting this endeavor to force myself to think outside of the box and to find creative ways to show everyday things? Cornfu does it with his kids' toys, right? Nawset Pete recently shot a little rubber character and it was awesome. Hmmmph. So I stopped off at the local Chinese take-out to pick up dinner for Ken and I and decided to take my camera in with me (sans the camera bag so as not to be too obvious). I wanted to catch the cooks working the woks but thought better of it- most restaurants don't like to see cameras if you know what I mean. While I waited for my food, I thought about how disgusted I was with my shots today. I mumbled to myself, “I could take a shot of this floor and it would be more interesting than what I shot this afternoon.” I put my D300 on the floor, pressed the button and guess what: I was right. The pleasant surprise: there were no roaches lol.

Lesson of today: I need to feel more inspired and stretch myself beyond my comfort zone.
Christine > Day 179: Swan
June 29, 2009
I passed two swans with a baby on my drive home from work. Although I was able to get very close to them (much to my surprise), I couldn't get a good shot of the baby since it was covered by the grass. I just love the back of birds - that tuft of feathers that come to a point.
Christine > Day 178: Fresh Peas
June 28, 2009
Not a new shot- I just didn't have it in me to go out and get a shot today. I need a vacation after my vacation.
Christine > Day 177: Saranac Lake IV - Cheers!!
June 27, 2009
This photo was actually taken on Thursday but since Ken and I spent the entire day on the road traveling from Saranac Lake to the east end of Long Island, I didn't have the time or energy to take a photo for today. This shot just about sums up how happy the hubs was. Lower Saranac Lake is his absolute favorite place on earth. He used to camp there every year for over 2 decades but hasn't been there since we married in 2000. He planned the entire trip for us and I have to say, I was less enthusiastic about it than he was. I had only been camping once before and it wasn't in a tent- it was in a cabin. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the experience. I am wholeheartedly looking forward to another camping trip next summer. The smile on Ken's face was not induced by the delicious margarita served at our favorite Mexican restaurant which is located in the Lake Placid/Saranac Lake area. He looked like this the entire trip- even when it rained. He was so in his element and he felt like he was "home". I now love Lower Saranac too as well as camping. But next time I doubt he'll treat me like a princess. He was just trying to break me in this trip and did all the heavy work. Next year I'll have to carry my own weight. :) A huge thank you to the hubs for one of the best vacations EVER!! xoxo

I'll be creating an entire gallery for my trip under "places". It'll be named "Lower Saranac Lake". It's a beautiful place- well worth a peek. Meanwhile, I posted four days worth of PODs- this shot is day 4. Wednesday through Friday are the prior 3 shots.
Christine > Day 176: Saranac Lake III - Breakfast over an open fire
June 26, 2009
These were the eggs I cooked on Friday. An egg is just an egg and tastes just like an egg, but somehow when they're prepared over an open fire deep in the mountains, they just taste better. :)
Christine > Day 175: Saranac Lake II
June 25, 2009
This is Thursday's POD. I just got back from a 4 day camping trip and, although I took a ton of photos each day and selected my POD each day of the trip, I was unable to upload any on Wed, Thu and Fri. For those that are either ambitious or interested- there are four shots posted today for all four days. Had a great time camping on Lower Saranac in the Adirondack Mts. I hope the photos convey the beauty and grandure of the wilderness. In the mornings, the lake was like a mirror- undisturbed by boaters, kayakers and swimmers. I loved the reflection of the sky.
