DailyPhotos > Christine  > Smugmug Galleries > Photo a Day Project 2009

A Photo a Day (also known as Project 365) - What is it?? It's exactly what the name implies - a photo is posted each and every day for a full year. You can choose to impose whatever rules or criteria you wish- some photographers insist that the photo be taken the same day it's posted, others will post an older photo that they "Photoshop" the day they post it, and still others don't impose any rules at all. My goal for this project is to take several photos every day and choose the best from that day to post. I have been able to stick to it for the most part (with one or two exceptions so far). I carry my Nikon D300 wherever I go- it's now like one of my limbs. It's one of the most challenging things I've ever committed to doing but so far it's been well worth it. If you've got a minute to spare, go ahead and hit the slideshow button. And don't be shy about giving a photo a “thumbs up” or even commenting if you see something you like. :D

Lastly, for those visitors that aren't members of Smugmug, the photos posted to this gallery are critiqued by photographers that belong to the "Daily Community". If you click on the "DailyPhotos" link above (it's next to my name), you will be taken to a gallery with photos posted by other the members. There's a lot of beautiful work out there.... you can get lost for hours.

Christine > Day 176: Saranac Lake III - Breakfast over an open fire
June 26, 2009
These were the eggs I cooked on Friday. An egg is just an egg and tastes just like an egg, but somehow when they're prepared over an open fire deep in the mountains, they just taste better. :)
Christine > Day 175: Saranac Lake II
June 25, 2009
This is Thursday's POD. I just got back from a 4 day camping trip and, although I took a ton of photos each day and selected my POD each day of the trip, I was unable to upload any on Wed, Thu and Fri. For those that are either ambitious or interested- there are four shots posted today for all four days. Had a great time camping on Lower Saranac in the Adirondack Mts. I hope the photos convey the beauty and grandure of the wilderness. In the mornings, the lake was like a mirror- undisturbed by boaters, kayakers and swimmers. I loved the reflection of the sky. My husband Ken (KW) had his DSLR with him but slept through sunrise. Tisk tisk!
Christine > Day 174: Saranac Lake part I
June 24, 2009
Just got back from my camping trip. It's almost 10pm and I'm exhausted. I took my daily photos (this was taken on Wednesday) but I had no way to upload them. Apparently the islands on Lower Saranac Lake in upstate NY aren't equipped with wifi. I'll post Thursday, Friday and Saturday's shots tonight then it's off to bed. I'll catch up on all of the daily shots I've missed and will hopefully have time to comment on them all.

The above shot was taken in the morning- around 11am upon our arrival to the rental place where we reserved the boat that would get us to our island. Our private island is just behind the one to the right. There was only one campsite allowed on this particular one (Green Island) so it was super private. It was beautiful. I had never been camping on Saranac Lake but my husband is a pro. I can't wait to do it again next year. At $21 a night, it's a bargain! :)
Christine > Day 173: New Diggs
June 23, 2009
No great shakes for my photo of the day- I didn't have time to get out of the office during lunch and tonight I'll be packing for a camping trip to the Adirondacks. Why a picture of a desk? It's my new diggs. Just got promoted to a new position at work and this is my new official desk. Yay. I now share an office with a fellow crazy person. Looks clean right now but just wait, it'll be loaded with papers, files and stick-it notes in no time. :) Wish me luck! Oh, and I won't have access to the internet while I'm away- should be back to comment and upload 4 or 5 days of POD on Sunday- hopefully I'll have some great mountain shots.
Christine > Day 172: Horses Revisited with a Surprise
June 22, 2009
I have photographed the horses here before- I sometimes visit them during my short lunch break on a work day. I stopped by this afternoon, not with the intention of getting a POD but once I noticed the baby I whipped out my camera. Last time I was there was mid May and one of the white horses was my daily. I did not see any little ones then. I was happily surprised this afternoon. Mama was real watchful of her baby- wouldn't leave her post the entire time I was at the fence.
Christine > Day 171: Anger and Humilation
June 21, 2009
This is Kramer. Don't worry, he's already gotten me back for this with repeated soiling of my rug over the past 2 months. This is my form of retaliation. But I'm certain it won't stop him from future misbehavior lol. He's lucky he's cute. This is another attempt at Photoshop- I've been watching lessons on Youtube and am LOVING that magic wand!. :)
You can see other versions in my alternate POD gallery.

QUESTION: A friend paid a photographer to get portraits of her kids. They were shot in her home and back yard. One of the outdoor shots was of her daughter by the backyard pond and the photographer made it look like an oil painting on parts of it. Anyone know what kind of plug in or PP filter that would be? It was beautiful and I'm curious to look into it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Christine > Day 170: North Fork Field
June 20, 2009
I passed this scene while taking the long, scenic route home in the hopes of finding a photo of the day. The sky was not very vibrant - it showed up as a very pale blue - so I had to Photoshop it a bit. I must say, slowly but surely I'm getting the hang of this program. By taking baby steps I've been increasing my knowledge and improving my skill slow and steady. I'm pleased with the way the sky turned out. You can see other versions in my alternate POD gallery.
Christine > Day 169: Buds
June 19, 2009
It POURED all day!! I took this shot a few days ago but was too busy shooting the dogs and processing the photos to even look at the ones I took on my lunch break in Southampton. I really liked how some of them came out- I put a few other versions in my alternate gallery
Christine > Day 168: Dakota
June 18, 2009
I'm pretty much finished processing the shots of Dakota and Kobie from yesterday. The POD for yesterday was Kobie running on the beach so I thought I'd introduce everyone to Dakota. He's a very sweet dog- the easier of the two to photograph it seemed. You can see the rest of the shots of Kobie and Dakota here.
